Chapter 15:
Spiritual Warfare
Spiritual warfare is simply put, a war between the forces of God and the forces of rebellion, led by one of God’s most trusted created angelic beings, whose name was Lucifer but is, since his fall, more correctly called Satan. Satan is derived from the Hebrew word meaning opponent. satan’s main job as it is related to mankind is to accuse God's people. However, his name in the Greek ‘devil’ means accuser or slanderer. That is, whenever God’s children stumble and fall, or sin against God, satan goes and accuses the Christian before God’s throne. However, sometimes there need not be any sin at all for satan to accuse one of God’s servants.
There are two important things we must understand about satan, which will help us deal with his wiles.
(1) His pride and arrogance makes him think he can really be like God.
(2) He has an intense jealousy and hatred for mankind because of the great love and plan of salvation that has been offered to man and not to fallen angels.
"For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
Spiritual warfare is a reality of the Christian life, but remember, we know the ending – our side wins! Since the Devil has already lost, he has nothing to lose in trying to take as many people with him in defeat apparently just to hurt God. And however much the Devil succeeds in doing this, God hurts -- like a parent does over losing a child. This sort of spite is very much in keeping with the Devil's character. Satan is a leech; he is so lacking in life that the only life he has left is what he can suck out of the living.
The very first thing you will need to know is that Satan, his demons, and all of their supernatural powers have been totally defeated by Jesus when He died on the cross for all of us. Here are 6 extremely, powerful verses that you will need to have underneath your belt if you are ever forced to have to deal with any kind of a direct, demonic attack – either against yourself or anyone else you may know. Demons hate, and I mean hate, every single one of these verses, as they are all a constant reminder to each and everyone of us that they are all defeated and that they have no chance against any true, born-again Christian who knows who they really are in JESUS CHRIST, and who knows how to wield the Sword of the Holy Spirit, and who knows how to walk with the anointing that God has through them.
1. “… that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” (Hebrews 2:14)
2. “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:13).
3. “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” (Colossians 2:15)
3. “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8)
4.“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” (Revelation 12:11)
5.“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and coming in like the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
6. Therefore God has also highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and of those on earth, and those under the earth, and that every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:5-11)
